What Happens After You File Your Bankruptcy Petition?

After you have filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Houston, several things will happen. The first thing that will happen is the court will enter an automatic stay order which will do two things 1) prevent creditors from continuing any collection efforts against you are legal or illegal and 2) put an end to harassing phone calls and letters while your bankruptcy case is in progress.
Next, the bankruptcy court will send a notice of your filing to all of the creditors you have listed on your bankruptcy petition.
Finally, a bankruptcy trustee will be assigned to your case and will oversee all matters related to your bankruptcy filing. The trustee of the federal employee that is appointed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to monitor your case and to ensure that you are eligible for bankruptcy. Your trustee will be in charge of reviewing your petition, making sure it is filled out correctly and scheduling meetings with your creditors.
