Bankruptcy Filings Increase by 20%

According to recent statistics released on August 17, 2010 by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, bankruptcy filings throughout the United States rose by 20%. Data was collected throughout a 12 month period that ended on June 30, 2010.
A total of 1,572,597 bankruptcy cases were filed within the federal courts throughout that time span. Last year, the total number of bankruptcy filings was 1,306,315. It is reported that this year had the highest number of bankruptcy filings for any time since many of the provisions of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 took effect.
