Man Leaving Jail Only to Face Bankruptcy
One man, who is scheduled to be released from prison later this month, will exit only to face a possibly long bankruptcy case. The former car dealership owner instructed his lawyer to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy while still behind bars. He reportedly has debts exceeding $31.5 million. While most of the debts are related to his business endeavors, nearly $1 million of that - $960,000- is personal debt. His wife was not including in the personal bankruptcy filing.
Back in January of this year, the 50-year-old pleaded no contest to the charges of fraud against him. The state prosecutor found him to be guilty of defrauding at least 50 customers at his car dealerships. He was found to have taken in used vehicles for trade-ins but never paid off the resulting debts, leaving the customers to pay for them on top of their new car payments. This is not the first time that he has filed for bankruptcy, but he is hoping that it will be the last.
