Foreclosures Continue to Surge in Texas
Even though the job market in central Texas has started to level out the number of bankruptcies filed in the state only continue to grow. In the metro area of Austin alone, which includes four counties, foreclosures were up ten percent from the previous year, meaning that 15,622
foreclosures occurred in that area.
In Travis County 8.500 foreclosure postings were listed, making for a 17 percent increase from last year while Williamson County had 5,145 postings up 14 percent. Surprisingly enough the numbers for Bastrop and Hays counties actually showed a decline in foreclosures last year.
Although 25 to 40 percent of all postings ever make it to the auction block, it still represents a large chunk of homes. Those who do not go to auction are likely to have declared bankruptcy, paid the delinquent mortgages, sold the house to pay off the remaining mortgage or have loans that are still under review.
