Absolutely distraught by the financial state of affairs in America, one Republican representative has proposed that the country claim bankruptcy.

According to Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), bankruptcy is a viable and necessary option for the United States.  Commenting on the current financial affairs in Greece, Paul said that the same tactics would work for the United States. Paul is known for his dramatic political statements and off-kilter view of economics. He has been known to argue for allowing silver and gold currency to compete openly on the American market.

His latest idea is to simply remove the Federal Reserve, which would in turn erase the national debt to it. Paul hopes that the American public would support default rather than raising the debt limit, but has no hopes that his fellow lawmakers will follow his lead.
