Boise County Plans to File for Chapter 9

Entire counties are filing for bankruptcy now that the economy is still taking its time to strengthen itself. One such example is Boise County in Idaho that plans on filing for Chapter 9 bankruptcy.

This would allow the county to be protected from creditors while they create a restructure plan. However, local residents are not too happy to hear about this plan of attack. The county has prided itself on its history of being one of the first places to strike gold in the 1800's. Now it might make a different kind of history as the first county to declare bankruptcy.

One local, Trudy Jackson, commented that he is "really upset, because the owners had no right to even file suit against Boise County." This all comes as a result of a project that was in the works for a halfway house. The project, called the Alamar Ranch, would have helped troubled kids work through their difficulties in the wilderness. However, when the project stalled the ranch was never built. The owners of the project have sued the county in federal court and won $4 million.
