Creditors Harass Woman on Facebook
When you file for bankruptcy, creditor harassment is supposed to stop. In the case of Melanie Beacham, however, her nightmare continued long after she was awarded bankruptcy status.
In response to ongoing harassment, Beacham filed a lawsuit against MarkOne Financial. Until her lawsuit has been heard in court, a Florida judge has ordered the company to stop contacting Beacham, her friends and family using any social networking site. Billy Howard, her lawyer, is pleased with the progress, going so far as to call it groundbreaking.
Although it isn't commenting on the Beacham lawsuit, MarkOne did respond last year to queries in Atlantic magazine that it's "policy is to use Facebook to locate customers when the customer has a fully public profile, and when the customer has not responded to MarkOne through conventional means."
