Chapter 11 Only Option for Solar Panel Company

A solar panel manufacturer shocked many when it filed for bankruptcy last week, despite receiving $535 million in stimulus loans from the federal government.

As if their finances weren't enough to cause company executives concern, the company's headquarters was raided last week by the Department of Energy and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. While it is known that a raid was conducted, further information has not been released by either agency.

This investigation came just a few days after the company announced that it would be shutting down manufacturing and laying off 1,100 workers. Blaming serious global competition in the manufacturing of solar panels, the company said it simply could not compete with lower prices offered elsewhere.

While this is not atypical of the times, as many companies are being forced to file for bankruptcy, several politicians have started to raise a ruckus about this particular company and say unless action is taken more green companies will be forced to shut their doors.
